Softball rules
1) Time
Batting practice starts at 7:30 or when field becomes available. First pitch of game must be by 8:00. if the game is not started at 8:05 we will deduct an inning from the game. if you don't start by 8:15 we will deduct another inning. so on and so forth for every 15 minutes. If game 2 doesn’t start by 9:45 it will be a 6 inning game. At 10:00 it becomes a 5 inning game. No inning can begin after 11pm
A game becomes official after 5 innings are played.
Everyone has to understand that the lights at the field automatically shut at 11:15. so we have to get 2 games in between 7:45 and 11:15. if you come late you are going to ruin the night for the other 20 guys. please take this seriously.
2) Number of players and positions - If you have more than 10 players you may bat everyone, even if you have 13 players. Or you can slot the extra players in the lineup where each slotted player may bat or run for each other(a slotted runner will not count towards a pinch a runner).
10 players are in the field.
3) Subs - you only get a sub if you have less than 9 players. meaning if you only have 9 you play with 9. even if the other team has 10 or more.
In the event that you have less than 9, you can get a sub or subs that are equal or less than your missing players. All subs must be approved by the committee.
4) Replacement player and trades - If a team loses a player to injury, or because he just quits the league, you can get a replacement player from outside the league. This player must be approved by the committee.
5) Leading- . you may lead once the pitcher releases the ball. The catcher will have the ability to pick you off. If the catchers throws you must touch the base you were on before trying to advance.
6) Pinch running: every team can use 2 pinch runners. they have to be the last batted out. there is no more automatic runner for one particular player. Slotted runners do not cont towards your pinch runners.
7) Mercy Rule – if a team is up 12 runs after 5 innings the game will be considered a mercy. If the visitor team goes up by 12 in the top of the 6th the home team will have the ability to bat again.
8) cursing and fighting – will not be tolerated, IKE has the authority to kick anyone out of a game or out of the entire season, and we will gladly do it. we don't mind if you argue or question with the ump, but it has to be done respectfully. no reason to argue for too long, you will just waste our limited time, the ump never changes his call. if you curse at the ump we will kick you out of the game. if you get in a fight and you throw a punch, you are done for the season. there is no exact type of curses or fights that I'm referring to, i will use common sense and my own judgment.
Playoffs:
Top 3 teams advance to the semifinals.
4 will play 5 for final semifinal spot - one 9 inning game
semifinals will be best of 3
Finals will be best of 3
for all playoff series captains have to agree on a night within one week of when matchups are determined. if you can not agree on a night the commisioners office will make the decision.
